Where does the time go?? I'm always amazed at how easy it is to lose track of time and how quickly it passes. I've been a bit absent from my blog here as well as my social media accounts for the last several months because life has had me by the throat! I should also share a secret ... my focus has been on writing and I've been pushing through some self-imposed barriers these last months. I've heard it referred to as "the imposter" dilemma - the idea that you're a big FAKE that includes insecurity and fear that your writing SUCKS and no one will read it and, to quote one of my favorite horror movies, "They're all gonna laugh at you!" ;) So, I have been quietly exorcising my demons and I'm excited about the progress I am making. My WIP is moving along quite well because I suddenly came to the realization that I can't edit what isn't finished! So....book one in my series is currently being attacked Nanowrimo style :) Even though I am not officially doing Nano this year, I am trying to attack my writing in this way to finish the first draft and then begin book two while editing book one. This series, especially book one, is far different than anything I have written in the past and, frankly, I have not found anything like it on the bookshelves. The story line is not feel-good light reading and I expect some to be offended, most likely angered, by much of the content. My goal is to make people think; to let go of the black and white in which we typically view the world and explore the gray area. My book asks hard questions about family and acceptance as well as the age-old questions "Who am I? WHAT am I? Where do I belong? Where do I fit?" I'm excited, and also very nervous, about sharing this book and the two others that will make up the trilogy, and I hope some of you beautiful people will read it and offer your feedback. I love a good discussion! I will be revealing more about it soon!
On another note, I am in the process of figuring out how to put together a monthly newsletter and how to start a list of folks who might be interested in receiving it. Definitely new territory here! I am hoping to have this assembled before the beginning of the new year - fingers crossed! Please reach out to me if you might be interested in receiving the newsletter. I promise I won't spam you and I am really interested in showcasing other independent authors in each newsletter. There are so many talented writers out there that I want to share their books, novellas, and stories with everyone I meet! I'd love to talk with you all about your work and shine the spotlight on you in my newsletter! What do you think? Want to be involved? Reach out to me here, via the 'contact me' page, on Twitter @noellebrighton, Facebook, or Pinterest. I want to meet you!
Alright, back to the writing dungeon. I hope to hear from you soon. Until then, nose to the grindstone!
